Background

Prior to joining the Christchurch College of Education staff in 1995 as a lecturer in early childhood education Nicola held supervisory, teaching and early intervention teaching positions in early childhood centres. She is a fully registered teacher.

Research

Nicola’s research interests include social justice, inclusion and heteronormativity in early childhood education. Recent research includes a co-authored study investigating how lesbians and gay men are creating and maintaining family in contemporary New Zealand society. Nicola’s doctoral study is exploring the planned and actual family relationships and practices of lesbians and gay men who have teamed up to conceive and co-parent children together.
